The basic assumption in this paper is that a household labor supply decision can be considered as choice from a set of discrete alternatives, called matches. The matches are characterized by attributes such as hours of work, wages and other aspects of the jobs. This model allows for very general budget specifications, joint decisions of husband and wife as well as restrictions on job opportunities and hours of work. The model is estimated on Norwegian data from 1979 and 1986. The estimated utility function is found to be rather stable from 1979 to 1986.
